Project American Life

I went to an amazing overnight camp called Project American Life. I loved it and I wish I could go back. Ok so I won't say the whole 4 day shabang and what we did everyday. Just like a few things we did. Alright when we got to the everyone was dressed up in ridiculous costumes. There was a king, jester, peasant, and an untouchable. Ok we all went around a flag pole and there was a flag up that obviously wasn't the American flag. I was like stairs shape with 7 or 8 colored circles on each step. The top was royal blue and the bottom was red. We were told this was the caste system there were there was a royal family who was "better than everyone else" and other people that weren't good. Then there was the bottom, the untouchables. We were all told that royals are the best and everyone else wasn't. So they started to call out all the royals and you would clap for each royal. I was listening, wanting to be a royal really bad, who wouldn't? After some people were called out I started to lose hope then she announced the next person....."Katie Kerr you are a royal" I was overjoyed. I walked over to the front and they called I think 3 more people. The royals left and I got our luggage and went to our cabins to put them down. Though out the day everyone had to ask the king to enter a room. We ate lunch and we had to "pray to the king". It wasn't suppose to be a bad thing but my friend and I only pray to God so we didn't. Anyway, we played games and the royals got to go back in a game if they got out, and got to be ''it'' all the time. The king treated us better than everyone because  he was the king and our group leader. He made the bottom two groups on the caste system be boundaries! I felt bad and everyone got frustrated. This rule-bending and all made everyone hate us by dinner. That's when it all went bad. I enjoyed it for the first 3 hours but now it all got serious. At dinner the king taxed the tea and lemonade for 65 cents for everyone but the royal family. I felt like a jerk. The room exploded with angry 6th graders yelling about how this wasn't fair. The king actually enforced it. No one had 65 cents thou. After 15 minutes the king said he wanted to notice people who weren't treated properly. He was facing the untouchables, then he whipped around and said, "Here's to the royal family!" 2 people at our group probably smiled. Everyone else was NOT happy. The king turned all our friends against us. The untouchable leader spoke out and said things like this is unfair and all that. Then he yelled, "GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!!!" Then he splashed water in the kings face and everyone even half our our group, including me, clapped. The king had a big meltdown and everyone left the place running to our cabins. When we were told to come back we had to sit with our group leaders and discuss whats wrong with the caste system. Our group leader told us he WAS acting this out and we wrote down what was wrong because we were mad too. Everyone hated us. In the end everyone presented their thoughts and the king changed his ways and it was all better.
